Kryptonite Bike Locks

For over 40 years, Kryptonite has been the leader in action sports security. As the creator of the original bicycle u-lock in the bicycle security category in 1971, Kryptonite has set the standard for premium quality security products. As impressive as our products are, the Kryptonite story itself is also pretty cool. From the early days in a VW van, to the legendary NYC stories, to the numerous prestigious awards the company has received for design and innovation, the Kryptonite story is about much more than a product.

Are Kryptonite Bike Locks Good?

The answer to this can be found in the very existence of Kryptonite’s Anti-Theft Protection Offer. If your bike is stolen because thieves were able to break the Kryptonite lock, the manufacturer would give you a monetary value back for the loss of your bike. While the offer only applies in some countries (not Australia, unfortunately), it’s a bold guarantee and one that shows a determination to stand by their product.

Their locks are made of superior-quality materials that give even the most powerful angle grinders a hard time, and while not indestructible, they have proven themselves time and time again to be some of the world’s most rugged bike locks.

Should I Buy A Kryptonite Bike Lock For My E-Bike?

Without a doubt. E-Bike theft is on the rise, and if you’ve got a discerning preference for the more aesthetic electric bikes such as the ones produced by MV Agusta, an extra $100-$150 is nothing compared to the cost of having to replace your ebike in the event it gets stolen.

There is no sacrifice to be made for security, and Kryptonite bike locks are the best ebike locks available.

Are Kryptonite Cable or U-Locks better?

Both are effective bike locks, but the choice comes down to price. Cable bike locks are made of braided steel cables encased in a vinyl cover. They provide cut resistance and will take a while to cut through for even more powerful tools. While their added flexibility makes them more practical and user-friendly than a U-Lock, that flexibility does mean that cable locks are easier to cut through than U-Locks.

U-Locks, on the other hand, tend to be made of hardened steel. While they aren’t flexible, they are significantly stronger than cable locks. That strength comes with an additional cost, however, but even that being the case, locks are as much of a deterrent as they are an actual security system. Sometimes, just looking undefeatable is more important than actually being undefeatable.
