Bike Lights

It is said there are two types of lights. Those that let you see, and those that let you be seen. In urban environments, some prefer the latter, but more safety-conscious riders prefer a blend of both. EBikes.com.au supply a variety of Knog bike lights that can easily be attached to any ebike to improve your overall visibility while simultaneously lighting your way.

What To Consider When Buying Bicycle Lights

Brightness

Brightness is generally measured in lumens, and the larger the number of lumens, the brighter the light. Depending on the type of riding you do, and what time you ride, the brightness of light you need may vary. Most lights come with multiple brightness settings that can be easily adjusted depending on how bright you need our lights to be.

For comparison, a dipped car headlight is generally around 700 lumens with a full beam pushing out roughly 1,200 lumens. Because you won’t be regularly hitting speeds of over 40 kph, you don’t need to see that far ahead of you, so most cyclists will choose something in the 200 - 500 lumen range.

However, if you only ride during the day, or in well-lit urban areas, some cyclists prefer lights that just enable them to be seen better by other road users.

Modes

Some riders want a solid beam to consistently light their way, while others prefer a variety of different flashing lights that are more noticeable to other road users. Lights with flashing modes have a very real benefit of improving battery life because the light isn’t constantly on.

Flashing lights are more common in urban areas and on rear lights because first, roads tend to be more illuminated, and second, the pulsating light is more noticeable to other road users.

Charging Setup

Most lights charge via a USB cable, while some have a built-in USB connector so they can be plugged directly into a computer or USB plug to charge.

The latter has a distinct advantage of not needing any sort of cable, which minimises the chance of you running out of power and not being able to charge if because you don’t have the cable.

Design

If you’re more conscious of how something looks, then you may want to opt for something a little more subtle. As bike lights need to be fixed either to the handlebars or the bike frame somewhere, they stick out and can impact your e-bike’s aesthetic. Some riders prefer to choose more subtle LED bike lights as a result.
